Penta Infra | Sustainable Growth in Digital Infrastructure
What I appreciate about working with NIBC is the personal approach - the ability to challenge each other, their understanding of the industry and our customers, and the way we jointly consider how to best serve them. I especially value that they think beyond just financing, considering the total impact and our overall operations.”
Bob Sprengers has been CEO of the Dutch company Penta Infra since April 2024. Penta Infra specialises in the operation, acquisition, and construction of data centres across Europe. The company currently has a European footprint in five countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and Denmark. With new investors on board, Penta Infra is pursuing ambitious growth, both within and beyond these countries.

In collaboration with NIBC
Bob Sprengers explains: “We chose NIBC as our financier because of their dedicated focus on digital infrastructure, which means they truly understand our business model. This enables us to collaborate effectively, challenge each other, and grow together - especially since, like us, NIBC is a European player.”
Bob values his partnership with NIBC: “It’s not just about the business, but also the personal interactions - the conversations, jointly considering the best setup, and challenging each other - which I find very rewarding.”
Penta Infra started working with NIBC in Geleen in 2015. Since then, the partnership has expanded to include data centre projects in Cologne, Düsseldorf, and, most recently, Hamburg.

Sustainability at heart in Hamburg
“In Hamburg, we started by acquiring the land a few years ago, followed by the construction phase,” Bob shares. “We officially launched operations in April 2025, delivering a state-of-the-art, sustainable data centre where location plays a crucial role. Northern Germany serves as a major hub, with countless fibre cables landing here to connect Europe with the rest of the world - making our Hamburg data centre highly attractive to customers.”
Sustainability forms the foundation of the Hamburg data centre’s design. “We adhere to strict standards such as EN 50600, and sustainability is always a key priority,” Bob explains. “For instance, our Hamburg site features a green roof that supports temperature regulation, alongside advanced cooling systems that enable CO2-neutral operations. As at all our sites, we only purchase 100% green electricity.”
The centre also incorporates a photovoltaic façade, enabling Penta Infra to generate a portion of its own electricity onsite. “We have also future-proofed the data centre by preparing it to supply residual heat generated during operations to nearby industries and homes. This approach is already a success in Brussels and Copenhagen, where the heat from our data centres is used by the local community - earning those sites industry awards,” Bob adds.
With a total capacity of 4.4 megawatts, the Hamburg data centre allows us to serve customers throughout the region efficiently as a leading co-location operator.

Growing with Purpose & Pride
Penta Infra is witnessing dynamic growth within a vibrant industry. Bob shares what makes him proud: “On one hand, we depend on highly advanced technology that must always operate flawlessly. On the other, we’re part of an industry that faces scrutiny. That’s why we are committed to working as sustainably and responsibly as possible - a principle I am truly proud of.
We’re growing our team, developing our people, and building our brand with great ambition. Working alongside investors and clients, and collaborating on innovative solutions, makes this journey incredibly rewarding, diverse, and challenging.”
When asked if Bob had any advice for NIBC, he responds: “Keep doing what you’re doing - the collaboration has been excellent. If there’s a chance to add even more value, I would suggest expanding our partnership further through additional investment, so we can achieve our ambitious growth plans together.”
