Increase in Building Permits in the Netherlands

Recent data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) for 2024 shows a significant increase in building permits for new homes, marking a positive development for the Dutch real estate market. As a financial institution specialising in real estate financing, we are pleased with this increase and see it as a crucial step in addressing the housing shortage in the Netherlands!

The issuance of over 67,000 building permits represents a 21% increase compared to 2023, reversing the downward trend since 2021.

With more than 34,000 permits for owner-occupied homes and nearly 33,000 for rental homes, we see respective increases of 28% and 16%. The highest number of rental housing permits issued in the past ten years underscores the crucial role of rental homes, especially in urban areas with high demand, such as South Holland, North Brabant, North Holland, and Gelderland.

Additionally, residential transformations, such as the conversion of offices into homes, which are not included in these rising figures, also offer great possibilities and opportunities.

At NIBC, we are committed to supporting this growth through our tailored financing solutions, including development and construction financing, as well as our Sustainability-Linked Loans (SLLs) that promote more sustainable real estate.

By collaborating with developers, builders, and investors, we aim to facilitate the timely delivery of high-quality, sustainable homes in the Netherlands and Europe.

Looking forward to working together to achieve the government's ambitious housing goals? Let’s connect! Together, we can create a more sustainable and accessible housing landscape for everyone!
