NIBC Finances the Transformation of Ballast Nedam's New Sustainable Headquarters

NIBC has provided a Sustainability Linked Loan (SLL) to support the acquisition and renovation of Ballast Nedam's new headquarters in Utrecht. This financing solution features a sustainability-linked component that allows for a ±10 basis point adjustment to the interest margin, contingent on achieving an A++ energy label.

A Future-Proof Sustainable Office

The building is set to undergo a complete transformation into a state-of-the-art office space designed to meet the highest sustainability standards. The renovation targets an A++ energy label, contributing to the growing demand for future-proof, sustainable office spaces. Key improvements include enhanced insulation, energy efficiency upgrades and integration of sustainable materials. These efforts will not only reduce CO2 emissions but also lower operational costs and enhance user comfort.

Sustainability Linked Loan (SLL)

Sustainability Linked Loans are tailored to each asset and client, offering customised solutions that incentivise clients to achieve ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) targets. The loan margin (interest rate) is adjusted based on the property’s performance against specific ESG Key Performance Indicators, such as improving energy efficiency or upgrading energy labels.

For this project, the loan margin is tied to achieving energy efficiency milestones, including upgrading the building to an A++ energy label.
