NIBC’s Infrastructure portfolio shows growth in 2025

NIBC's Infrastructure portfolio grew by 8% to EUR 2,207 million in 2025, despite an increasingly competitive digital infrastructure financing landscape. The bank’s origination focus is directed toward data centres, increasing their share in the portfolio from 33% to 41% in 2025. Total origination reached EUR 546 million, consisting of EUR 416 million in data centre financing and EUR 130 million in fibre.

In 2025, NIBC adopted a more cautious approach in the fibre segment, leading to fewer transactions and increased monitoring activity. Limited access to liquidity, delayed rollouts and competition among market players impacted the performance of several clients. As a result, the weighted average credit rating of the (fibre) portfolio was negatively affected. NIBC remains actively engaged with clients when such situations arise.

Jan Willem van Roggen, Managing Director and Head of Infrastructure at NIBC:

“2025 has been an extraordinary year for our Infrastructure portfolio as well as for NIBC as a whole. Our strong growth in data centre financing reflects the solid fundamentals of this segment and the relevance of our strategic focus, while developments in the fibre market required a more cautious approach and intensified portfolio management.

Moreover, a key milestone in 2025 was ABN AMRO’s announced intention to acquire 100% of NIBC shares from a Blackstone entity, still subject to ECB approval. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026 and will mark a new chapter in our 80-year history.

Our commitment to clients remains unchanged for 2026, and we look forward to supporting them with tailored financing solutions that align with their long-term strategic goals.”
