De Oosterlingen: An ode to island living
At NIBC Bank, we are proud of our collaboration with Being, a leading real estate developer focused on projects that make a positive impact. A great example of such a project is ‘De Oosterlingen’, a unique residential concept located on the historic island of Oostenburg in the heart of Amsterdam. Comprising seven contrasting and vibrant buildings, this project offers a fresh perspective on urban living. We provided construction financing for this project.

Creative architecture and sustainability
‘De Oosterlingen’ consists of seven buildings, each with its own story and unique appearance. Dirk Dekker, co-founder and Managing Partner of Being, highlights the importance of creativity in real estate development: “What I love about real estate development is collaborating with people on a creative process and actually realizing something tangible.”
Each building in ‘De Oosterlingen’ is designed with sustainable and natural materials, resulting in a lively and organic look. Whether it features a green façade or a wooden one, the design contributes to the project's unique identity and appeal.

Space for unique living
The project includes a total of 141 owner-occupied homes, ranging from studios and lofts to spacious city residences and luxurious penthouses. Almost every home in ‘De Oosterlingen’ is unique. Great attention has been paid to layout and design, balancing privacy with spaces for spontaneous encounters. An additional benefit for future residents is that the homes are on freehold land, meaning there are no ground lease fees.
A dynamic location
The ‘De Oosterlingen’ project is just a stone's throw from the vibrant Czaar Peterstraat, known for its boutiques and dining options. The central location offers residents easy access to Amsterdam's lively and diverse neighborhoods, such as the Javastraat and Utrechtsestraat, as well as cultural hotspots like museums and Artis. With Central Station only a ten-minute bike ride away, the location is ideal for city dwellers who love vibrancy and convenience.

A unique collaboration
Dirk Dekker shares, “I experience the collaboration with NIBC as very good, very open, and constructive. NIBC is highly customer-oriented, with always personal and accessible contact.” A particular aspect of this collaboration was the flexibility NIBC showed at the start of construction, even when Being had not yet met the required pre-sale standard. Thanks to NIBC's open approach, the project was able to proceed, contributing to its success.
The future of Being
Being has ambitious plans for the future. With the development of more than 3,000 homes and 80,000 m² of office space, Being aims for an even greater positive impact in the Netherlands, both in large and smaller cities. Dirk Dekker states, “What makes me proud is when users approach me after a building has been delivered, and they’ve been working or living there for some time, telling me how much they enjoy being in that office or home.”
De Oosterlingen has now nearly completed its pre-sale, and construction is nearing its peak. With completion planned for the third quarter of next year, De Oosterlingen is a perfect example of how a strong partnership can lead to a unique and sustainable urban living environment.
