Blink | A Green Residential Community Emerges in Pijnacker!
Nestled at the edge of the Balij Nature Reserve near the heart of Pijnacker, a new vibrant residential community is taking shape.
Under the vision of Blink, formerly Janssen de Jong Projectontwikkeling, and financed by NIBC Bank, this emerging neighbourhood promises to be relevant both now and in the future.
Project ‘KIEM’ will accommodate 350 homes and exemplifies how modern urban planning and sustainability can go hand in hand.

The Vision of Blink
With a mission to create thriving neighbourhoods, Blink develops new build projects such as ‘KIEM’, offering a diverse housing mix from social rental apartments to detached villas.
Jacqueline de With, project developer at Blink explains: "Our goal is to realise a broad mix of homes, catering to a wide audience. This approach fosters a dynamic and diverse community."

Collaboration with NIBC
For the Pijnacker project, Blink chose NIBC as their financier due to their close involvement and understanding of real estate development.
"NIBC truly makes a difference with their short lines of communication," notes Giel Rompelberg, Financial Director at Blink, emphasising the benefits of an engaged financier. Giel appreciates the partnership with NIBC, describing it as highly flexible. "Not every financier has a good grasp of project development. NIBC is approachable, and what I appreciate is their collaborative effort in finding the optimal solution."

Sustainable Innovation and Nature-Inclusive Design
Sustainability is a crucial element of Project ‘KIEM’. The project is being built to be climate-adaptive and CO2-neutral, with innovative solutions such as swales for rainwater management and measures for water infiltration.
"What makes this project unique... we build climate-adaptively, nature-inclusively, and CO2-neutrally," explains Jacqueline. The neighbourhood is designed with a green character, including sedum planting on roofs and green façades to bring nature closer to homes.
A highlight is the CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) apartment building, Knoest, which stores 764 tonnes of CO2 with its sustainable timber construction. "That's equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 864 households", an impressive example of Blink's commitment to environmentally-friendly innovations.

Pride!
Giel Rompelberg shares the pleasure of seeing tangible results from his work. "The best part of my job as a Financial Director in real estate development is witnessing the tangible outcomes of all the efforts you've put in."
Jacqueline adds: "What makes me proud is that ultimately we contribute to creating a future home for 'our' residents. A project often has a long lead time with many milestones to celebrate, such as a finalised zoning plan or a granted permit..." "But I am most proud when I walk through the community and see residents making their homes their own, laying out their gardens, seeing how happy they are... knowing you've contributed to that!"
